Team Windsurfer

Peter is famous for his loyalty and culturing the longest running sponsorship tie-ups in windsurfing history.

"In my first year of pro competition I got taken on by Hood Sails. They looked great but had dire cloth problems. Happily the very next year, 1985, I was approached by Tushingham Sails and have been with them ever since - I think it's a longevity record in sponsorship terms. It's not a hard decision to make. Ken Black is a superb designer and he invites criticism from his team riders and acts on it (this is all too rare a quality in sailmakers). Roger Tush and Dave Hackford the directors, are both personal friends so it's a very relaxed working atmosphere. It's frankly a privilege to be associated with such a successful company and to have so much input."

One of the biggest pieces of sponsorship gossip in 2004 was that Peter left Mistral after 20 years to join Starboard.

"The change in importer in the UK led to a change in circumstances. Cuts had to be made and sponsored sailors were seen as an unnecessary luxury. Mistral Germany kept talking about a rescue package but it was slow in coming and in the meantime Starboard stepped in. It was an emotional decision. it was like the split up of a long marriage but like a long marriage you sometimes are sticking together for the wrong reasons. The switch to Starboard has been incredible. It's like being back in windsurfing's Halcyon Days when every day something wild, whacky and new would appear. MD Svein Rasmussen and his team have incredible creative energy and have an infectious love of the sport. The boards are great "

Peter's other primary sponsors are Fat Face and Da Kine accessories.

He joined Fatface in1998. He was mates with company's founders Jules and Tim. It all started on a quite a matey basis but he persuaded them that he could help them spread the FF message further and wider. He became the first sportsman of any kind who they sponsored. Since then the company have not only dressed him sartorially but have also got behind many of his DVD projects.
